We have lots of wonderful cafés in the nearby area so if you’re looking for somewhere to grab breakfast or lunch during your stay, we have listed our favourite places below:
Assington Country Kitchen – Serving home cooked hearty meals; including all day breakfast 7 days a week, a wide range of freshly baked cakes/pastries and a traditional Sunday roast, this small café is just a 20 minute walk from the huts in the village of Assington. Situated at The Barn in Assington, here you can also find a small boutique shop selling thoughtful gifts & home decor alongside our local farm shop, which sells a selection of local, fresh and artisan foods and an independent florist.
The Foxes Den – A short 5 minute drive brings you to The Foxes Den, a coffee shop offering breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. Vanessa and Steve’s vision is to offer as much locally sourced produce on their menus as possible. Set in beautiful grounds with plenty of parking, their delicious home baked goodies will have you coming back for more!
The Box River Cafe – A family owned and run café in the heart of the picturesque village of Boxford, Suffolk, this lovely little café is just a mere 7 minute drive away. Offering a lovely variety of hot and cold food, cakes and drinks, this cafe is well known for its great service and friendly staff, who are always ready to help you. Please note during Winter they are closed on weekends (except the last Saturday of every month when they open to coincide with Boxford Farmers Market)
Painters at the Angel – Nestled in the Angel Pub in Friars Street (11 minute drive) in the historic market town of Sudbury, Suffolk, this café is famous with the locals. A finalist for ‘Best Afternoon Tea’ and ‘Best Coffee/Tea Shop’ in the ‘Eat Suffolk Food & Drink Awards 2020’, you will find a warm and welcoming atmosphere greets you as you step into this pretty café and garden. Using locally sourced ingredients, they offer breakfasts, daily specials, coffees, cream teas and home baked cakes. They also have a great choice for vegan and gluten free visitors with their own menus. Their premises are wheelchair accessible and cyclists are made most welcome for their mid ride refuelling stop. Bikes can be brought through to the garden for safe keeping while dining either outside or inside. We would recommend booking where you can as they are often very busy.
Cradle (Vegan) – A plant-based bakery and restaurant in the small but mighty British market town of Sudbury, Suffolk (14 minute drive). Visit them in the morning for ‘hot from the oven’ handmade French pastries, freshly roasted organic coffee and stone baked sourdough loaves. Or pop by in the afternoon to sample their lunches using the seasons best British, organic produce. Everything at Cradle is suitable for vegans and whether they are supporting a local certified farmer, a local allotment grower, or just a neighbour with a big apple tree, their mission is to reduce food miles and eat locally grown, organic seasonal food which is better for the planet, small farmers and the community’s economy.
